“It’s a Place of our OWN!”
Youth Gatherings at Welborne give Christians in middle school and high school a place of their own. We meet from 5:00-7:00, and our gatherings usually include games, time in small group, food (!), and a time of musical/dramatic worship. Please join us, bring friends, and find Christ in our midst.
Small group is one of the most popular and important things we do. So, we have made sure to keep this favorite a regular part of most Sundays. Time is spent with each other and our UMYF Counselors talking about faith, our lives, and how we find and serve Christ. Out of our conversations come great opportunities to make words into deeds.
For example, out of our small groups came the idea to begin an Ultimate Frisbee Tournament, whose proceeds would help those in need. At our first tournament, all money raised went to the Association for the Support of Children with Cancer at MCV-VCU. This year, our funds went to the Make-A-Wish foundation - $1400, not a bad contribution!
In addition to small groups, every month we take a meeting to be in mission in our community. Sometimes we’re raking leaves for homebound members of our church. Other times, we help at Pathways in Petersburg, helping to build a better life for the people they serve. This year, we’ll also be working with Shalom Farms, doing our part to help people get access to healthy food.
Of course, every now and then, we need to take the opportunity to simply be in fellowship and community with one another. Translation: we do fun events, too! Video scavenger hunts, ice skating, bowling, maybe even laser tag.
Important event on the horizon: our district UMYF retreat at Eagle Eyrie is February 24-26! The district’s deadline for registration is coming fast, so we need to know if you can come by February 8. Yes, that’s coming soon. Let us know today! And yes, we have scholarships available for youth who can’t cover the cost. We want you to be there, and there are members of the congregation who are willing to back that want up with cash.
You won’t want to miss these great adventures in faith and friendship! Come be a part, and know you will find a friend, as well as Christ, here in our midst!
